The Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (AMBA & BGA) has enhanced its International Management Board with the appointment of a new Trustee, Professor Sherif Kamel.
Kamel is a Professor of Management, Dean of the School of Business at the American University in Cairo (AUC), and President of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.
Before that, he was a senior advisor for strategic planning to the president and vice president for information management at The American University in Cairo. Before joining AUC, he was director of the Regional Information Technology Institute. Prior to that, he managed the training department of the Cabinet of Egypt Information and Decision Support Center.
Kamel is an Eisenhower Fellow. He is the Co-chair of the Board of Stewards of the African Women Entrepreneurship Cooperative, a member of the AACSB International Middle East North Africa Advisory Council, Egypt-US Business Council, and a founding member of the Internet Society of Egypt.
He was a member of the World Bank Knowledge Advisory Commission, Chairman of the Chevening Association in Egypt and a member of the board of directors of the Association of African Business Schools. His research and teaching interests include digital transformation, information technology transfer to developing nations, decision support systems, and entrepreneurship. His work is published in information systems and management journals, books, and magazines.
He is the author of the NileView article series. He serves on the editorial board of Case Focus: The Journal of Business and Management Teaching Cases in the Middle East and Africa. He is the Associate Editor of the Journal of IT for Development and the Journal of Cases on Information Technology.
Kamel holds a PhD in information systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MBA, a bachelor’s in business administration, and a master’s in Islamic art and architecture from The American University in Cairo.
Commenting on his appointment to AMBA and BGA’s International Management Board, Professor Kamel said: ‘I am honoured to be joining such a distinguished board. About AMBA’s Board of Trustees
AMBA’s Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall control and strategic direction of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association. It meets regularly during the year to consider, determine and review the charity’s strategies and policies, and to receive board updates from the CEO.
Trustees are drawn from our professional members and serve up to a maximum of six years in a voluntary capacity. Trustee positions are reserved for Deans or other representatives of our accredited Business Schools, and for the Chair of AMBA’s accreditation board.
The Board delegates to three committees oversight responsibility for Human Resources and Nominations, Finance and Risk, and Membership, respectively.
